Christian Koss, Rafael Devers homer twice as Giants power past Mets

Christian Koss and Rafael Devers both hit two homers Saturday, when the visiting San Francisco Giants beat the New York Mets 9-5 in the middle game of a three-game series.

Anthony Molina and five relievers combined on a five-hitter for the Giants (59-84), who halted a two-game skid.

A.J. Ewing hit a two-run homer off Molina for the Mets (64-78), whose two-game winning streak ended. Brett Baty had three RBIs via a bases-loaded walk and a two-run double, and Jared Young finished with two hits.

Devers homered in the first off Zac Thornton (3-5) before Koss, batting ninth, put the Giants ahead for good with a two-run shot against Thornton in the third. With two outs in the fifth, Koss hit a solo blast against Thornton to begin a three-run rally that ended with Devers' two-run opposite-field home run.

Koss has gone deep three times in his last nine games after going without a homer in his first 43 games this season.

Devers has six homers in his last six games.

Cleanup batter Oslevis Basabe hit a two-run homer for San Francisco in the eighth, and Grant McCray added a solo shot in the ninth. McCray finished 2-for-4.

Ewing's second-inning homer was the only hit allowed by Molina (3-0), who was charged with two unearned runs over five innings. An error by Devers extended the second.

Molina walked one and struck out six while winning his third consecutive appearance (second start).

Reiver Sanmartin threw a perfect sixth before the Mets threatened against Sanmartin, Joel Kuhnel and Carson Seymour in the seventh.

With one out, Young and Marcus Semien singled and Ewing walked. Kuhnel struck out Francisco Alvarez before Seymour walked Baty with the bases loaded. Seymour avoided further damage by retiring Francisco Lindor on a grounder to first.

Baty narrowly missed a three-run homer in the ninth, settling for the two-RBI double off the top of the left-field wall.

Thornton gave up six runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings. He has allowed three or fewer runs in 10 of his first 12 career starts and had a 2.53 ERA in his previous 10 starts.
